Alan Gordon FRICS is Senior Partner of DM Hall. He is widely recognised throughout Scotland and beyond as a leading expert in commercial property, particularly in the leisure and hospitality sectors.

He joined DM Hall’s Glasgow office on 11 November 1986 as an apprentice Chartered Surveyor, completed the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) professional examinations in 1992 and became an RICS Member in 1995.

In 1997 he was promoted to Associate in DM Hall and was thereafter elected to the partnership in 1999. Alan was elected to the Management Committee of DM Hall and has served continuously as a member of the firm’s Management Committee since January 2005.

Alan has specialised in the appraisal and valuation of licensed trade, leisure, hotel and retail businesses since 1990 and has dealt with a wide range of clients, including banks, professional consultants, property companies, leisure companies, private individuals and commercial mortgage brokers. He has also been commissioned as an expert witness in several dispute cases.

He has spoken at the annual RICS valuation conference on the subject of trading related valuation appraisals and has also lectured on this topic at Glasgow Caledonian University.

He regularly speaks to the lending, risk management, and credit teams of several UK banks on the subject of Business Appraisals and Valuations and is regularly consulted on bank lending policy in this area.

He is a regular contributor to the business and professional media on issues arising in the Scottish property market. He was appointed Senior Commercial Partner of DM Hall from 2018 before being elected Senior Partner on 1 January 2020.
