First job: Worked at the Grape Vine Wine Bar and Restaurant in Bothwell
First car: Beige Mini Metro called Gus
What did the start of your professional life look like: I started off in the survey room as it was called, where I learnt how the work was processed, conflict checks carried out and time slots arranged for inspections. The next stage was shadowing colleagues to really learn the ropes.
Best advice received: Don’t over think things (well I am female after all!)
What do you like most about your job: The fact that it is not desk bound and we are out regularly carrying out inspections, meeting people and clients. In particular my Healthcare Specialism means that I am one of several surveyors in DM Hall that cover the whole of Scotland so no two days are the same.
And least: Sometimes we need to work to very tight timescales but you can’t beat the satisfaction when you get it done and the clients are happy.
Biggest professional achievement: Being made a Director at DM Hall earlier this year. Personal achievement my two fantastic teenage kids (Roddy & Rhona) who keep me on my toes and representing Scotland at Squash in my Youth.
The repair most worth doing to your property is: All repairs that keep your property wind and water tight are essential.
How do you see the current crisis panning out for your sector: Definitely a difficult one to predict as the market at the moment hasn’t moved and valuers follow the market they don’t predict it. Initially I thought that the commercial market would lag behind the residential but we have certainly been much busier in the last week to ten days which is a good sign. There are, however sectors of the market which will take longer recover.
How do you switch off: I don’t tend to switch off but probably the best way is a long walk with my dog Barney.
What do you listen to in the car: Forth one but I’m a huge Take That fan so I like at bit of that!
Which social media sites do you like/prefer: Facebook, Twitter and Messenger
If you weren’t in your current job, what would you be doing: Something Sports orientated (teaching/coaching) – I applied to do Sport Science at Moray House in Edinburgh but got into do Surveying instead which to be honest I am glad.
Favourite holiday destination: Cape Town and the Garden Route South Africa every time.
What makes you happy: Spending time with my family, I am very lucky to have such an amazing supportive family and we share a lot of time together with lots of laughter.
