It could be Scotland’s ultimate island retreat. A secluded, spotless, soporific spa where guests are pampered, cosseted and indulged in a pastoral setting and soothed by the sound of the sea.
The Northern Lights Holistic Spa, which is coming to market following an instruction to DM Hall Chartered Surveyors, may be on a remote haven in Shetland, but it is a sanctuary for visitors from far and wide.
Known to its regular patrons as the Shetland Spa, the colourful property sits on a gently sloping site in rolling farmland on the Isle of Bressay, which shelters the capital of Lerwick from winter’s easterly gales.
The stunning yellow and white building is so popular both with visitors and Shetland locals that it only has Excellent and Very Good ratings on TripAdvisor. Nobody has rated it as anything less.
The spa, which is a short stroll from the island’s marina and the terminal for the short ferry ride to Lerwick, became a treatment centre with guest house facilities 10 years ago. It also serves meals made from fresh local produce.
The property has four en-suite letting bedrooms and private treatment rooms. The thermal suite boasts a hot tub, sauna, steam room, a wet room for mud treatments and a flotation room.
The well-appointed proprietors’ suite has an open-plan lounge and dining room, kitchen bathrooms, bedrooms and open garden grounds with inviting views over the island. There is ample parking space
Bressay itself, and its smaller neighbouring island, Noss, feature striking landscapes, abundant bird life, coastal mammals and wild flowers. Bressay has a dozen fresh water lochs, many with fine trout, and a profusion of archaeological and historical sites.
The Shetland Spa affords the opportunity for an excellent lifestyle business, and could also be used as a private house on a pleasant group of islands which regularly feature at the upper end of quality of life surveys. There is also potential for it to be used as a guest house.
Viewing is strictly by appointment and a guide price has been set of ?350,000.
Viewing can be arranged by contacting Suzanne Lawrie on 0131 477 6000 (option 3) or business.sales@dmhall.co.uk
