Douglas Park Golf Club in Bearsden, Glasgow, is to stage a summer spectacular with its 28th annual Pro-Am tournament with all proceeds going directly to some of the most disadvantaged people in Africa.
The club is delighted to announce that DM Hall Chartered Surveyors will be title sponsors for the event on Thursday August 18, which it is hoped will raise substantial funds for the club’s chosen charity, On Call Africa.
The popular par 69 course off Milngavie Road, a challenging mix of woodland and parkland, will host teams consisting of one leading PGA professional from Scotland’s Tartan Tour and three amateurs, on greens which have been meticulously prepared to USGA standards.
Competitors in sponsored teams will play an 18-hole Stroke Play format and will enjoy a meal after their game and a free hospitality bar.
Alan Gordon, principal commercial partner based in the Glasgow North office of DM Hall, said: “The firm is delighted to be backing this very worthwhile event, which I am sure will prove to be an excellent day out for some of Scotland’s finest club professionals and amateurs alike.”
On Call Africa was founded in Glasgow by three doctors, one of whose fathers is a longstanding member of Douglas Park. The doctors work in the UK but also regularly visit Zambia to run clinics, train health workers and deliver health education.
Gavin McColl, of On Call Africa, said: “Zambia is one of the world’s least developed countries and has been particularly affected by the HIV epidemic. Events such as the Douglas Park Pro-Am bring in funds which allow us to continue to make a real difference.”
Douglas Park Golf Club captain Brian Thistle said: “The Pro-Am has become something of an institution at the club and this year’s promises to be even bigger and better than ever. We are very grateful for the generous support from DM Hall and we fully expect that the valuable work of On Call Africa will benefit enormously.”
