We caught up with Linda McGregor, Property Sureyor based in our Livingston office who is celebrating 15 years with DM Hall! We would like to wish Linda the very best and thank her for her hard work and dedication over her time with the firm. Congratulations Linda and here’s to the next 15!
• How did you join DM Hall?
I had just returned from travelling around Australia and applied for the job via an advert in the Scotsman. When I was interviewed and asked about any faults, I said I talked too much and I didn’t lie! I started on 25th October 2002 and will always remember the date, as it was the day before my birthday!
• How has your career progressed over the years?
I started off as an administrator with Suzanne Lawrie in Business Sales. I quickly progressed after gaining valuable experience with her and the Commercial department and started my surveying degree in 2007. In 2009, I moved to the Building Consultancy department and in 2014 I moved to Property Management in Livingston. I have learnt a whole new part of the business and enjoy working within the department. We all work hard together as a team and it’s a great place to work!
• What are your goals for the future and how is DM Hall supporting you to achieve them?
I am working towards becoming Chartered and will continue to drive the Property Management department forward alongside the Head of Department, Jan Palmieri.
• What is the best book you have read and why?
I’ve read so many, it’s hard to choose, but having two young children reminded me of my favourite children’s book, which was Joe Austen’s Uncle Teapot and the Foodwood. It’s now about 30 odd years old and I still love it; Beth and Chloe know the words off by heart and it’s now one of their favourites too, so I’m glad I didn’t throw it out!
• What is the best holiday you have been on and why?
Travelling around Australia for 9 months in 2002 was amazing! Graham and I ticked all the must-sees off the list and more! The Harbour Bridge, the rainforest in Cairns, Darwin, Uluru and the Olgas, dived at the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland and so much more! We also became very acquinted to the wildlife of Australia which was a very fun experience!
• Tell us something not many people know about you…
I’m a fully qualified massage therapist.
• Apart from being in property (of course!), what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
I wanted to be a translator for Spanish footballers in the UK, preferably at Easter Road. Although it’s been a while since we had any Spanish speaking players!
• What’s the best thing about working in this industry?
I love architecture and always spy buildings I’ve never noticed before when I’m out and about. Covering the whole of Scotland often means that when new instructions come in, I get to visit places I’ve never been before, which is great!
