DM Hall’s four big-hearted happy hikers of Hamilton have raised a fantastic £3000 for charity by completing a gruelling 50-kilometre night-time trek over some of Scotland’s toughest mountain tracks.
Director Ian Woods, Associate Ken Topping, Anthony Zdanowicz and Jacqueline King, all of the Hamilton office of one of Scotland’s leading firms of Chartered Surveyors, completed the challenging course in just under 12 hours.
Along with a support driver, they were taking part in the Trossachs PLOD, the ultimate team endurance walking challenge to help raise a total of £35,000 for Action Medical Research, the charity which saves and changes the lives of some of the UKs’ sickest babies and children.
The Intrepid Four left the picturesque village of Aberfoyle at midnight and slogged through the night on rough tracks lit only by head torches.
They hiked until daybreak, and then kept going past mountains and lochs including, Loch Drunkie, Loch Achray and Loch Venachar, through the village of Brig o’Turk and sections of the Rob Roy Way.
Ian Woods said: “This challenge is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a long course with a lot of really hard hills and descents. There were 18 teams taking part this year and I think it pushed us all to the limit.
“The support we had from everyone in DM Hall and outside was incredibly encouraging and we can’t believe we were able to raise £2994 for Action Medical Research.
“The charity has been carrying out enormously worthwhile work for many years now, changing the lives of some of our most vulnerable children. Our sore feet were a small price to pay for helping with that.”
