Landmark property in prime residential area is available at offers over £675,000
The former Glenfield Care Home, a substantial Victorian-era property in Greenock’s desirable West End, has been brought to market by DM Hall for offers over £675,000.
The building, which only recently ceased operating as a care home, offers a rare opportunity for redevelopment or conversion in an attractive and sought after residential locale.
Located on a prominent corner site at the junction of Bedford Street and Union Street, the property has scenic views across the Firth of Clyde to the Rosneath Peninsula and to Greenock Cricket Club, to its rear. Greenock town centre and its various amenities are around one mile southeast of the location.
The merchant-style property, complemented by more modern extensions, spans four floors with a gross internal floor area of approximately 16,309 sq ft (1,515 sq m) and features 33 bedrooms, seven with en-suite facilities, generous communal areas, a kitchen, ancillary accommodation, passenger lifts, and storage, with on site car parking and private garden grounds.
The property is being marketed at offers over £675,000 for the heritable interest, with a preference for unconditional offers.
Anthony Zdanowicz, an Associate at DM Hall, who is handling the sale, said: “Glenfield is a landmark property in a lovely area of Greenock with great residential development potential.’’
“We have already had some interest, and we expect it will appeal to a wide variety of prospective purchasers, whether for conversion to high-quality apartments or another sympathetic redevelopment project, subject to the necessary consents.”
The closure of Glenfield Care Home, owned by Greenock Medical Aid Society (GMAS), a long-standing charity that was founded in 1798, was announced in June 2025, citing rising costs and sector-wide challenges, after providing care locally since 1926.
