A former furniture and hardware on the main street of Alford, 25 miles west of Aberdeen, has been sold for residential development by DM Hall, one of Scotland’s largest firms of independent chartered surveyors.
The 18,800 sq. ft. property, at 87 Main Street, Alford has planning permission for either three houses or twelve flats.
The property had traded as Gordons of Alford since 1923 and has been owned by the Gordon family throughout that time. The present generation of the family decided to sell on the basis that its traditional offering has been superseded by lower-priced competition.
Kevin Jackson, a Director at DM Hall, who oversaw the marketing and sale of the property said: “The retail unit is large for a town the size of Alford which only has a population of around 2,500. Redevelopment for alterative use was the only viable option.”
