The company has taken a new 20 year full repairing and insuring (FRI) lease of warehouse premises at 71 Nuneaton Street, a 37,090 square foot warehouse on a 2.34 acres site.
MKM is the UK’s largest independent builders?۪ merchant, with 40 branches across England and Scotland. The latest, at Nuneaton Street, is its fifth branch in Scotland. MKM aims to be a ‘one stop shop’, for building, timber and plumbing supplies, and stock a wide range of products from the industry’s leading manufacturers. It is expected that up to 30 new jobs will be created within the new branch.
The property at Nuneaton Street is entirely powered by solar energy and biomass and is to become a center of excellence for green building materials and techniques, including customer demonstrations on renewable technology and innovation.
David Reid, Senior Surveyor at DM Hall said: “Our client, the landlord, is very pleased to have completed this letting, which has been in the pipeline for some time. We agreed conditional missives six months ago and our client was working overtime with MKM on site to ensure the branch was ready for the scheduled opening.”
“Both landlord and tenant worked well together, creating a substantial external storage yard and installing a very impressive double height trade-counter showroom. I am sure the resulting facility will prove to be a great success for MKM for years to come.”
David Kilburn, founder and chief executive of MKM Building Supplies said: “Next year Glasgow will play host to the Commonwealth Games and our branch is situated directly opposite the Velodrome.”
“There are enormous developments currently happening off the back of the Games. Within the next three years, we expect to open a further ten depots, the next opening in Durham in December and Castleford by January.”
DM Hall acted for the landlord, a private client, while PPH Commercial acted on behalf of the tenant, MKM Building Supplies Limited.
