Rare SSSI hill site by Denny offers grazing, natural capital and biodiversity opportunities

A rare opportunity to acquire a substantial and versatile landholding at Darrach Hill, by Denny in Central Scotland has been brought to the market by DM Hall.

Extending to approximately 105.06 hectares (259.61 acres), the property comprises an expansive parcel of hill ground within the Denny Muir Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is being offered for sale as a whole at offers over £640,000.

Situated to the north-east of Denny and accessed directly from the B818, Darrach Hill occupies an elevated position between approximately 250m and 360m above sea level, forming the highest point within the Falkirk Council area.

The land lies to the south of the River Carron and is bordered by established forestry plantations, creating a striking and secluded rural setting.

Despite its tranquil location, the property has excellent connectivity, with the M80, M876 and M9 motorway network within around three miles, providing easy access to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as their international airports.

The wider Carron Valley area is well known for outdoor pursuits including walking, cycling and equestrian activities.

Darrach Hill has historically been utilised for cattle grazing, including Highland cattle, and offers a significant area of rough grazing land classified predominantly as Class 6.2. In addition the property presents significant environmental and natural capital potential including extensive areas of open hill and peatland, with mapping identifying zones of raised and blanket bog.

These characteristics, combined with its SSSI designation and inclusion within the Central Scotland Green Network, make it particularly well suited to peatland restoration, habitat creation, carbon capture and biodiversity net gain projects.
