Beautiful and ecologically significant amenity Laird’s Loch lies on Perthshire–Angus Border
A rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally beautiful and ecologically significant amenity woodland and loch on the Perthshire-Angus border has been brought to the market at Laird’s Loch, Coupar Angus, by DM Hall.
Extending to approximately 59.25 acres (23.98 hectares), the property comprises an idyllic, peaceful Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), encompassing Laird’s Loch, established woodland, and a network of meandering footpaths within the Sidlaw Hills. The property is offered for sale as a whole, at offers over £175,000.
Situated approximately 4.2 miles south‑east of Coupar Angus, the land parcel enjoys a tranquil rural setting while remaining within convenient reach of larger centres, with Dundee around 10 miles to the south‑east and Perth approximately 19 miles to the west.
The A90 trunk road lies around 15 miles to the east, providing onward access to Dundee, Aberdeen and beyond.
The property is accessed on foot via an established parking bay at the entrance to the woodland, with well‑used paths leading around North Ballo Hill and Laird’s Loch, offering a series of scenic viewpoints, picnic areas, woodland walks and lochside routes.
Laird’s Loch is a naturally mesotrophic loch lying within a shallow basin and registered under the Reservoirs Act. The loch holds SSSI designation due to its open water habitat, species‑rich aquatic plant communities and extensive fringing acidic mires, which are the most extensive of their type in the Sidlaw Hills.
The loch has historically supported fishing, with commercial tenants previously operating coarse and stocked trout fishing, assisted by the loch’s favourable water quality, depth variation, weed cover and absence of algae.
The surrounding woodland is of mixed age and composition, comprising predominantly native conifers and broadleaves, and offers significant potential for further habitat enhancement, woodland management and conservation‑led stewardship.
Jennifer Campbell, of DM Hall, who is overseeing the marketing of the property, said: “Laird’s Loch represents a truly exceptional opportunity to acquire a large, high‑quality amenity woodland and loch in an extremely scenic and tranquil setting. Opportunities of this nature, particularly those with SSSI designation and established access, are increasingly rare.
“The combination of ecological importance, established paths, lochside and woodland walks, and proximity to Coupar Angus, Dundee and Perth make this a highly attractive proposition for purchasers with an interest in conservation, habitat management, responsible recreation or long‑term environmental stewardship.”
Recent works completed in 2025 have improved the dam structure and path around the loch, adding to the long‑term integrity and accessibility of the site. While no services are available, the land’s designation and management potential will appeal to buyers seeking a natural asset with landscape, conservation and biodiversity value.
Viewings are strictly by appointment through the selling agents. Interested parties are advised to exercise appropriate caution during inspection due to uneven ground and proximity to water. Entry to the lochside structure is not advised on health and safety grounds.
