You owe it to yourself, and your business, to make sure that you’re not paying too much in rates. Especially since the value on which they are calculated is set only once every five years. The next Revaluation of all commercial properties in Scotland takes place with effect from 1 April 2010. This will be based on a level of value as at 1 April 2008 – the "tone date". As the financial world and property markets have changed dramatically since the "tone date", even values correct at that time may be open to challenge now.

Future rates liabilities will be assessed on the valuation set in April 2010, until the year 2015.

The consequences of any error in the new valuation could mean substantial costs to your business will be compounded over the five year period.
