St Andrews is a historic town and tourist destination which boats Scotland's oldest University, held in high academic regard throughout the country.  The town is however, possibly best known as the "home of golf" enjoying a strong international reputation and appeal.

The resident population is around 11,500, this being greatly boosted by students and tourists throughout the year.  In addition, the town also serves an extensive hinterland/catchment area in rural Northeast Fife.

There are good communication links by road to Edinburgh, Stirling and Dundee with a mainline railway station in nearby Leuchars.

The Old Castle Tavern enjoys a strong and prominent corner position, on the South side of North Street, immediately East of the junction with South Castle Street, which is a short road link connecting directly to the West end of Market Street.
